https://www.rca.org/resources/jesse-tree-family-devotions?pid=1628

The devotional is great for children, and they can use these ornaments as colouring pages, and then hang them on the tree. I included text from the associated Scripture passages on each ornament as a way to reinforce ideas from the stories.

I learned so much from tackling these—like what King David’s crown might have looked like, What kinds of whales and large sea creatures might have populated the Mediterranean, when modern prayer shawls came into use, and the tools of a carpenter of Jesus’ day. Good stuff.

Print on cardstock for best results.  Download the full set of ornaments here:

Fredericton, NB Manhole Cover Competition

Nomadic Poetry Studio: Fredericton Manhole Cover Design Competition Working on this design was so much fun!  It has been a great way to compose an ode to our lovely new city, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.

“In this design, my aim has been to celebrate the vitality of Fredericton’s rolling landscape with the St. John River as its life-giving centrepeice.  Flora and fauna in the work include the: Chickadee, (AMAZING!) Atlantic Sturgeon, Fiddlehead Fern, Purple Violet, Balsam Fir, and Sugar Maple. “

While working on this, I daydreamed of the many moods of the river—-peachy pink in the sunrise, shrouded in a low mist, bright and beckoning, frozen still and covered in snow.  I can’t wait for spring when the water rushes down from the high places and swells it again.  It is truly a gift to live in such a place as this.

Below is an earlier iteration that I loved as well:
